In big move, Baba Ramdev led Patanjali Ayurved to launch dairy and apparel business this year



Patanjali Ayurved is all set to launch products in the dairy and apparel business, said founder Baba Ramdev, as per a Mint report. The products will launch in this calendar year, the report added. Ramdev on the sidelines of Globoil India 2017 conclave said, “With this, we will be in 11 categories.” He added,”The total market size (of these two categories) will be Rs 20 lakh crore. We will enter both within this year.”

Ramdev also took a dig at Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) and made a big claim of being number one in terms of trust with consumers and that within a year, his company would be on top in terms of turnover too. Notably, HUL is India’s largest consumer packaged goods firm.

HUL is responsible for manufacturing some iconic brands like Lux, Surf Excel and Fair Lovely and, Kissan and in the fiscal year 2017 (FY17) had an annual turnover of Rs 34,487 crore, the report added. With this turnover, HUL is India’s largest fast-moving consumer goods company.

Meanwhile, in the same fiscal year, Patanjali Ayurved had a turnover of Rs 10,561 crore. According to the Mint report on May 4, the company had announced that it will cross sales of Rs 20,000-25,000 crore in FY18.
Currently, Baba Ramdev’s firm sells Ayurvedic personal care and food products comprising of flagship toothpaste brand Dant Kanti. As per another Mint report, the firm had launched a packaged drinking water brand called Divya Jal.

Meanwhile, earlier on September 8, Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved Ltd was asked to stop telecasting its soap commercial on TV by the Bombay High Court and Delhi High Court. The company once against faced the heat as on Thursday, the Delhi High Court asked Baba Ramdev to stop airing its new chyawanprash commercial.

In an interim order, a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar restrained ayurvedic firm ‘Patanjali’ from airing, telecasting and circulating the advertisements in any manner till September 26, the next date of hearing, reported PTI. “We are prima facie satisfied that an interim protection is necessary in the matter,” it said.
