Why Mulayam Singh Yadav Called And Cancelled the National Convention?

It seems that the meeting Mulayam Singh Yadav has postponed the national convention of the party which was convened by him on January 5. Earlier on Sunday, Mulayam Singh made Akhilesh Yadav chief of Samajwadi party after witnessing that he has more loyal followers in the party. Major legislators and district units supported Akhilesh Yadav in the family feud.

It is said that Ram Gopal Yadav was instrumental in appointing 43-year-old Akhilesh Yadav as SP President with a unanimous decision by the 200 of the party 229 MLAs, around 30 MLCs and majority of office bearers of district units. The proposal was also welcomed by Mulayam.

The convention also authorised Akhilesh Yadav to create a national executive, parliamentary board and various state units, as required, and inform the Election Commission of the developments at the earliest.

Nearly 5,000 party men had gathered at the sprawling Janeshwar Misra Park welcomed the proposal to make Akhilesh SP chief was welcomed by a huge applause. However, Mulayam Singh claimed it all decisions taken at the convention are illegal.

In a hard-hitting letter, he said that to call the national convention meeting requires permission of the party president and so without him, all the decision was taken there were invalid. To counter, Mulayam Singh had also convened a national convention of the party on January 5 at the same venue here. However, after the peace out between Akhilesh and Mulayam, the meeting was then cancelled.

Now, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will be approaching the Election Commission on Monday to stake a claim for the party`s `cycle` symbol. As per the party`s constitution, the president of the party allots symbols for an election.
